VITAL STATS

Lifespan: January - April 1986
Host: Bruce Forsyth
Announcers: Gene Wood, Marc Summers
Produced by: Mark Goodson Productions

Front Game Rules

Two teams, one of five men and the other of five women, compete. The object of the game was to convey a word from one teammate to the other, within 40 seconds. The catch? Once a keyword was mentioned by someone, it couldn't be repeated in a future description. Pantomiming also wasn't allowed. Every time a teammate guessed the word, the team earned $100. Once a keyword was repeated, though, the round ended. A total of three rounds were played, with the dollar values doubled in the third round. The team with the most money at the end of the game got to keep the money and went on to the bonus round.

End Game

In the bonus round, one player came up with four words associated with a particular subject, and then the remaining members of the team had 20 seconds (5 secs. each) to guess those words. For the first subject, each word guessed was worth $200. The second subject was $300 for each word. The third subject was played for 5 times the team's score in the round, but only if they got all 4 words.

Loogaroo Looks it Over

I don't know why, but there's something about his show that makes it less fun to watch. The concept is interesting, but there seems to be at least one member on each team that's about as sharp as a marble. Maybe that's the problem. The endgame is a neat idea as well, a kind of precursor to Talkabout, but with only 5 seconds per player, it feels a bit too frantic for me. And as for Bruce, his main problem is that he tried to host the show as if he's a well-known figure in the US. Only problem is, he isn't. As a result, I think he may have come off as being annoying to the viewing audience.
