VITAL STATS

Lifespan: March 2000 - November 2000
Host: Todd Newton
Announcer: Randy West
Produced by: Sande Stewart Productions

Front Game Rules

A total of seven contestants compete. At the beginning of the game, one player is situated at the podium while the other six players make up the "Gallery". The player at the podium selects a player from the Gallery to challenge. Each member of the Gallery has an envelope that adds to the "Box Office", the jackpot that the eventual winner will play for. For each match, the host reads a series of entertainment-themed questions, each with three choices. The first player to buzz in and answer three questions wins the match and gets to select another player from the Gallery. One player has a Box Office card; the one who wins that match advances to the bonus round for the value of the Box Office.

End Game Rules

Will he go for it? The winner must now answer five entertainment questions. For each question, two categories are offered. The contestant picks one, and the question is read. If correct, the player wins $500, which the player can stop the game and keep or risk on the next question. If the player misses at any point, the bonus round is over and the player loses his winnings from the round. Five correct answers wins the entirety of the Box Office, which then resets to $10,000.

Loogaroo Looks it Over

By far, Game Show Network's best offering. Sure, the gameplay is a little derivative from Jackpot!, but that's a format that was begging to be revived anyway. Todd Newton makes a great host (although he wasn't the best rookie of the year - Kenny Mayne earns that honor) and the bonus round has a nice element of suspense. Now, if only the folks at Sony would put the same kind of gusto into all of their other original programs as they did here...
